Brighton Bandstand |
|
Coastline were delighted to be invited to perform at the newly refurbished Brighton Bandstand situated on the promenade between the two piers. The 125-year-old bandstand, which is considered to be one of the finest examples of a Victorian bandstand, has now been restored to its former glory. It began to decay from neglect in the early 60’s and sadly was torn down in 1965. However in 2007 the Brighton Bandstand Campaign was set up and restoration started in 2008 and was completed in June 2009. So, on a very very windy Sunday afternoon late in August we marched up to the podium but soon realised our sound was being lost due to the howling wind so we swiftly moved to the lower level in front of a brave seated audience. Despite the cold the audience kept asking for more and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. |
