              Contest May 2008

Competition May 2008 was held once again in the fabulous Birmingham Symphony Hall.

We were thrilled to have the opportunity to have our chorus coach Lorraine Rochefort attending the regional competition and were thrilled when she was able to attend our rehearsal on the Thursday afternoon after we'd all checked in.

Friday was the quartet competition and we were thrilled that our quartets Tonic & Twist! were both competing.

Saturday was the chorus competition. We started the morning with an early start. Being early on in the order or appearance meant we had an early walk-on time to test out the sound on the stage. After hearing what the sound would be like we quickly headed back to our hotel to start getting changed, make-up applied and hair all done. We arrived in the rehearsal room very excited about our contest package. After warming up and going through the package we headed out to catch the coach down to the symphony hall.

On arrival at the Symphony hall we joined the "traffic" pattern where we were taken through to the last warm up room and then back stage. At this point we were all really exciting and extremely relaxed. We'd done all the work - now it was time to go out and show just what we could do.

The next six minutes seemed to fly by! We sang our contest ballad 'That Old Feeling' followed by our uptune, 'Lulu's back in town!' We certainly made good use of those six minutes mind you. When the results were annouced we found out that we'd missed out on the most improved chorus award by 1 point! We'd improved our score by 67 points and our scoring was a C+ level overall. We were also very excited to see some individual categories were B- level too!

As you can imagine, after such a wonderful result we certainly had a fabulous party on the Saturday night!
