We are thrilled to welcome Debbie Hopkinson as our new musical director.
Debbie learnt to play the clarinet and piano at school and also studied musical theory which she passed at grade VIII. She sang in her school choir and took part in the Eastbourne Music Festival on an annual basis. After ‘O’ levels Debbie left school and attended the East Sussex Music College where she studied for music ‘A’ level. Whilst there she played clarinet and bass clarinet in the East Sussex wind band and also furthered her studies in music theory, conducting and music orchestration. In 1983 she joined Crawley Ladies Barbershop Chorus and was a member of Coastline Harmony between 1993-97. In 1997-1999 Debbie sang with Island Harmony Barbershop Chorus in Cyprus and on her return to the UK in 1999 she set up and led Kaleidoscope, a small award winning barbershop group. In 2005-7 she re-joined Coastline Harmony and was bass section leader and joint Assistant Music Director. Debbie has sung bass with 5 quartets and won two fifth place medals and one fourth place medal. She has also done some arranging, notably the Abba Medley which Coastline Harmony sing today. Debbie is very excited and thrilled to have been appointed Musical Director of Coastline Harmony in June 2009 and is looking forward to the future.
